"The Color of Joy"
Welcome to a Preview of the 2010 Annual Show featuring Diana Madaras' joyful
and colorful new works. If you are interested in purchasing
one a painting, please contact the Skyline
Gallery at 520-615-3001 and we will complete an "intent to purchase
form." If you are the only collector who has completed a form on a
particular painting by 4 pm on Friday, Oct. 22, the painting is yours.
If several people have committed to the same painting, we will draw a
name from the hat. We do this to be fair to all collectors. Thanks for
your support and understanding. If you'd like to know more background
on a particular painting, please email diana@madaras.com.
 Four
Palms Original
Watercolor Framed Size: 24x28 Price: $1495
Believe it or not, this painting is a Tucson scene, though it
looks somewhat tropical. This summer, we added a circular staircase to
the rooftop and oh my, what glorious views from up there. The vantage
point from the roof top provided an interesting perspective and the
stamping adds an element of mystery and surprise.
 On
Dad's Pond Original Watercolor Framed
Size: 24x28 Price: $1495
These beautiful water lilies bloomed during a visit to my
father's home in New Jersey this spring. Beneath the plants live his
school of colorful koi. I was captivated by the reflection of
the flower in the dark, silent water.
 Deb's
Duet Original Watercolor Framed
Size: 30x36 Price: $3200
My friend and former employee, Deb Adair, offered the use
of her cabin
in Alpine for my annual painting retreat. The retreat is an opportunity
for me to leave behind the obligations of ordinary life and focus 100%
on my work. I painted this floral at the cabin and named the painting
for Deb as a thank you for her generous heart. I love the boldness of
this image and the magical mixing of paint on paper that sometimes
happens with a watercolor.
 Dappled
Light Original Watercolor Framed
Size: 30x36 Price: $2800
I love to drive downtown on Sunday morning when the streets
are empty and I can imagine life in Tucson at the turn of the century.
At the end of Meyer Street-which has provided an endless source of
painting material for me-I spied a dilapidated brick wall with a lovely
assortment of overgrown flowers. The spattering of light that skipped
across the blooms really made this scene exciting to paint.
 On
the Ridge Original Mixed Framed
Size: 29.75x26 Price: $1495
This scene jumped out at me during a hike in Catalina State
Park. The cactus clump appears to stand guard over the valley below. In
winter even the desert can look cold at times. There's something eerie
and haunting about this scene.
 Gear Up Original

Total fun. Total Joy.
 Dusk
at Gloria's Original Watercolor Framed
Size: 45x36 Price: $4500
Gloria lives next door. She's the senior resident of our
Tucson neighborhood-her house built 40 years ago by her now-deceased
husband. She will be thrilled to know I painted a sunset scene looking
up towards the mountains from the bottom of her driveway. I used a
stamping technique to express the playful dance of light in the desert
at dusk. When I give myself permission to do “whatever” during a
painting session, I truly experience The Color of Joy.
 Burst
of Joy Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 29x22.5 Price: $2800
Wild. Crazy. Fun and free. Decide for yourself if this should
be a horizontal or vertical painting-then I will sign it accordingly.
 Fruit
at the Villa Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 28.5x22.5 Price: $3200
If you read the monthly e-news, you might remember this
painting began as "a mess." My goal was to develop it slowly with many
layers of color and glazes to achieve the glow of light on the pot. The
dark background adds intrigue and mood.
 The Wagon Original
Acrylic Framed Size: 31.5x25.5 Price: $2800
Rural, raw, living off the earth. This wagon sat outside the
walls of a deserted mission, longing to tell tales of another time.
 Lost
& Found Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 27x23 Price: $2800
Lost and Found was painted from a scene at the Artist's Ride
in Wall, South Dakota. The Artist's Ride is by invitation only, staged
for 50 artists a year for the purpose of providing authentic reference
material for Western painters. I have been fortunate enough to
participate three times. In this scene, the good-looking, rugged cowboy
has encountered a lost dog out on the ranch. The touching communion
between man and dog is the essence of Lost and Found.
 The
House Across the Street Original
Acrylic Framed Size: 26.5x22.5 Price: $5200
Remember the blizzard of 2010? It was February in Toms River,
NJ with 28 inches of snow in 24 hours. I just happened to be there
visiting my family. It was fun and scary and freaking' cold! Half the
guests missed my sister's birthday party because they were snowed in,
including our father. I anguished over whether our flight would be
cancelled the next day and as I couldn't imagine the snow being cleared
away that quickly. But, as angry as the weather was on Friday night and
Saturday, it was equally glorious on Sunday morning and I awoke to the
brilliant play of sunlight on snow on the house across the street. I
wouldn't have missed the blizzard of '10 for anything.
 Gus Original
Acrylic Framed Size: 26.5x22.5 Price: $1750
His eyes tell the story. He needs a good home. He wants a
family to love. He's one of thousands of shelter animals hoping each
day someone will choose him. His painting honors those homeless animals
longing for a second chance and 50% of the proceeds from Gus will go to
the Humane Society.
 Squirrel
Face Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 13.5x15.5 Price: $950
I grew up around squirrels in New Jersey and didn't take much
notice, but I was reminded of how cute they can be when I spent time in
Alpine this summer. We threw some peanuts in the bird feeder and
watched as the squirrels ate and hoarded nuts all day long. This image
will also make a great holiday card next year.
 Sunday
Afternoon Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 29x22.5 Price: $3800
What better way to spend Sunday afternoon than stroll through
the cobblestone streets of Tlaquepacque, Sedona. The sun kissed the
tops of the foliage and sides of the pots illuminating the scene with
color and joy. This painting is a combination of loose and free strokes
in the vegetation and light, as well as precise work on the
wrought-iron. The juxtaposition of the two make this one sing.
 Downtown
Shutters Original Mixed Framed
Size: 26x30 Price: $1495
Gates, doors windows - ever-intriguing subjects to paint. What
lies behind these shutters? Who is so bold as to paint their front wall
cobalt blue? What secrets hide inside? All fun questions I pondered as
I painted this romantic downtown scene.
 The
Royal Patio Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 38x48 Price: $7900
Inspired by the exquisite grounds and architecture at Royal
Palms in Scottsdale, this painting is all about beauty within and
mystery beyond. The play of light and shadow on the patio was
incredible.
 My
Little Burro Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 19.75x24 Price: $1650
Burros are mischievous creatures and you can see that in the
eye and head cock of this cute little fellow. He peeked around the
corner and watched us as were explored the dusty streets of a small
farming village near San Miguel, Mexico.
 Alpine
Aspens Original Watercolor Framed
Size: 24x28 Price: $1495
The shapes of the lovely aspen leaves in the White Mountains
captured
my imagination. This painting is all about positive and negative space,
shapes and design elements. It's a painting one can look at for a long
time and continue to find new places for the eye to rest.
 Suddenly
Spring Original Mixed Framed
Size: 30x36 Price: $2800
One day the landscape is barren, the next day flowers adorn
the desert. New season, fresh color, joy, and renewed hope.
 Wildcat
Plaza Original Watercolor Framed
Size: 22x26 Price: $1495
The University of Arizona Alumni Association rolled out its
Wildcat for Life program this fall, encouraging alums to sign on for
a lifetime membership. In conjunction with the program, they
commissioned several paintings which will be reproduced and framed as a
thank you to large donors. Wildcat Plaza is one of them and that makes
this original even more special. The setting for the painting is the
Plaza in front of the Administration Building on the Mall at U of A.
 Basket
Girl Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 18x22.5 Price: $1800
I met this young girl on a trip to San Miguel, Mexico last
December. She was walking across the rocks towards the lake, hoping to
sell one of her baskets, but alas, no touristas in sight. I was taken
by her easy gait, lovely tanned skin and huge, genuine smile. The
memory of her walking into the sun carrying her precious baskets is the
one that stayed with me. She embodied beauty and grace despite the hard
life she obviously endured.
 Humbug
at Home Original Watercolor Framed
Size: 21x24.5 Price: $2200
This was an actual scene from my house when I brought home
one of the stuffed Kitty Humbug toys. He fit perfectly in the sleigh
someone had sent me filled with holiday treats. Kitty Humbug represents
"traditional Christmas" with the message of hope and compassion he
conveys in Kitty Humbug's Christmas Tail. What better way to celebrate
the holidays than with a warm fire, stockings hung with care and a cute
little Humbug at home.
 The Bull Original
Acrylic Framed
Size: 48x60 Price: $16,000
If you have a big wall and love African animals, take a look.
This is a "wow" painting. I'm offering a show special-- $4,000 savings
to you or I will donate $4,000 of the proceeds to your favorite animal-related charity. Your choice. Offer expires on Sunday Oct. 24th at 5
pm. I met the Bull on a safari to Phinda, a private game reserve east
of Kruger National Park in South Africa.
 Flower
Power Original Acrylic Framed
Size: 49x12 Price: $3200
This is last painting I finished in the series. It's bold and
big--a statement piece. The epitome of the "Color of Joy."
