Carlson's Finger Rock
Enchanced Giclée| Image size- 18 x 24” | Framed size- 27 x 33" | Price: $1,500
This is an enhanced version of this beautiful view of the Catalinas. I painted on an existing canvas and added more vegetation and color to make this a unique piece of art.
Watercolor| Image size- 9.5 x 9.5” | Framed size- 23 x 23" | Price: $850
I painted this happy scene of sunflowers in an interesting square format. To add dimension to the pot, I carved shapes into a linoleum block, then applied paint to the block and pressed onto the paper.
Hummingbird in Red
Original Acrylic| Image size- 9 x 12” | Framed size- 14 x 17" | Price: $1,250
Thanks to photographer Rob Boone for the beautiful photo reference that provided the inspiration for this painting of a hummingbird—one of my favorite birds to paint.
Acrylic| Image size- 9 x 12” | Framed size- 15 x 18" | Price: $1,250
When I received a Christmas card of a mouse in pajamas, it led to the idea of painting javelina in their pajamas. The initial photo reference was from a trip to Ventana Canyon where a javelina couple was crossing the road with their kids.
Watercolor| Image size- 12 x 16” | Framed size- 22 x 27" | Price: $1,950
The Gallery recently added Cave Art Pottery to our gift section, and I was so taken by one of the vases in the collection that I wanted to paint it. I bought several bunches of flowers for the vase until I had just the right combination.
Acrylic| Image size- 18 x 24” | Framed size- 24 x 30" | Price: $3,200
During a drive through the mountain estates at Ventana, I saw this interesting outcropping of rock, and we stopped to take photos. My husband Miro was so enthralled with the light on the mountain that we stayed and photographed the scene for more than an hour. I used his photo reference as inspiration for this painting.
Acrylic | Image size- 12 x 16” | Framed size- 20 x 24" | Price: $1,500
Painter and Gallery artist Brenda Semanick set up this still life in her studio on Grant Road for our “painting date,” and together we painted this nostalgic holiday scene. This image will be a holiday card this fall.
Saguaro Van Gogh
Acrylic| Image size- 18 x 24” | Framed size- 24 x 30" | Price: $3,750
This is the forth painting in the “Masters Series”- a collection of saguaros in the style of the old Masters. Preceding this were Saguaro Matisse, Saguaro Nieto, Saguaro Picasso, and now Saguaro Van Gogh.
Watercolor| Image size- 9 x 12” | Framed size- 20 x 24” | Price: $1,250
Sometimes in the middle of a painting, I decide I don’t like it, and it is headed for the reject drawer. But I vowed long ago that before I did that, I would finish the painting. With nothing to lose, it often gives me the freedom to experiment and paint without fear. Such was the case with Stephenie’s flowers. I added white gouache to the watercolor and made large vertical brushstrokes that added an abstract element to the painting and made for an interesting effect and outcome that I liked.
Fence at the Ranch
Acrylic| Image size- 36 x 48” | Framed size- 44 x 55” | Price: $9,500
This scene was inspired by the dramatic desert scenery and entrance to the road to Aravaipa when we visited the charming Aravaipa Orchards Farm bed and breakfast owned by the Madden family.
New Spirit Animals
This next group of paintings comprise the “Spirit Animal Series.” The Spirit Animals tell the story of my deep connection to animals – a consistent passion throughout my life. As a child, I lived in an apartment attached to my dad’s veterinary hospital and spent every minute possible helping where I could. There are 5 things the Spirit Animals have in common—all have a black sky, all have a moon and stars, all are painted on Yupo paper, all are named after song titles, and all have a tattoo.
Oh, Give Me a Home
Watercolor on Yupo| Image size- 18 x 24” | Framed size- 32 x 38" | Price: $6,200
The buffalo is so unusual in the way he sheds his coat— sleek on the back half and the other half thick and wooly. The buffalo represents abundance and was a major source of sustenance for Native Americans, providing food, clothing and warmth among other necessities. The buffalo symbolizes prayer, gratitude and praise for all that one receives.
Run Around Sue
Watercolor on Yupo| Image size- 12 x 16” | Framed size- 26 x 29" | Price: $1,750
This song title is perfect for the roadrunner, ever darting and scurrying about. Roadrunners are held in high regard by Native American tribes in the Southwest, and seeing one signifies good luck. They represent speed, courage and intelligence, reflected by their physical attributes, but are also believed to chase away misfortune.
Horse with No Name
Watercolor on Yupo| Image size- 16 x 20” | Framed size- 29 x 32" | Price: $2,500
The larger-than life sculpture of a stallion that welcomes guests to White Stallion Ranch was the inspiration for this painting. For the Native cultures, the horse represents power – both physical and spiritual. The horse was highly esteemed because it symbolizes freedom and new journeys.
Night at the Opera
Watercolor on Yupo| Image size- 18 x 24” | Framed size- 33 x 39" | Price: $3,750
Named appropriately for these singing wolves, the title also has significance in that the pink color in the painting is called “opera.” The wolf is a teacher and pathfinder in Native American culture, noted for its loyalty and sense of family, while still maintaining individuality. The wolf howling (or singing) at the moon indicates its desire to connect with new ideas.
Watercolor on Yupo| Image size- 14 x 18.5” | Framed size- 26.5 x 32.5" | Price: $2,500
The delicate, lacey wings and the colorful totem body made painting my first dragonfly fun and challenging. The physical appearance makes it easy to understand why the Native Americans believe the dragonfly represents illusion, or the winds of change. It is a reminder that the physical façade does not always represent reality, and reminds us to look beyond what we see on the surface.
