I rarely paint self-portraits - this is only my second one in 30 years of painting - but I was captivated by the fun energy I saw in a photo with my niece, Caroline, at her college graduation. I painted this self-portrait in a loose, brushy style—quite different from the more realistic portrait I had done in 2008.
